Teaching Philosophy
I have been teaching art in New York City since 1995, from kindergarten to high school in a variety of venues including public and private schools, museums, community centers and after-school programs.
I teach
everything from drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printing and functional art and covers concepts as color theory and drawing from observation. As an art educator, I follow several philosophies:
• Art as a means of developing skills such as hand-eye coordination, problem solving and motor skills.
• To learn basic art techniques from observational drawing to paper sculpture to color theory.
• Explore a variety of materials including found, recycled and natural media.
• Allow students the freedom to express themselves through the process of art making.
• Combine inter-disciplinary art in conjunction with history, science and architecture in collaboration with classroom teachers.
• To create art for art's sake.
