Rick Anthony Diaz is an artist and educator who has been teaching drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, printing and design since 1995. He has taught kindergarten to high school in a variety of venues including public and private schools, museums, community centers and after-school programs in the New York City metropolitan area.

Teaching Philosophy

 

Several philosophies and practices followed by Rick Anthony Diaz:

  • Experience painting, collage, sculpture and printing as well as portraits, landscape, still life, abstract, conceptual.
  • Draw from observation and from their imagination.
  • Develop hand-eye coordination & motor-skills.
  • Explore a variety of materials including found, recycled and natural.
  • Be encouraged to solve problems creatively.
  • Understand that art is a process that takes time and care.
  • Learn the basics of color theory.
  • Express oneself creatively making art
  • Combine art with literacy making art insoired by books
  • Understand the tradition of craft where artisans use materials such as wood, glass and stone to create everyday functional art.
  • Realize that buildings, clothing, and products have been designed by artists and architects - and that all of them are viable careers in the arts.
